Gemma 4 Hackathon: $200,000 to Create AI for Social Impact
Discover the Gemma 4 Good Hackathon: develop responsible AI solutions with Gemma 4. Register and innovate with Kaggle and DeepMind.
AI is shaping our future, but its potential remains out of reach for billions of people. Between classrooms without reliable connections and communities where privacy protection is essential, the gap between cutting-edge capabilities and practical deployment has never been more evident.
It is precisely this challenge that the Gemma 4 Good Hackathon, launched by Kaggle in partnership with Google DeepMind, aims to address. This global competition invites developers to harness the power of Gemma 4 open source models to solve urgent problems in three critical areas: health, education, and climate.

The Gemma 4 Hackathon Challenge: AI Accessible Everywhere
The hackathon encourages the use of multimodal capabilities and native function calling to address real-world challenges. Gemma 4 represents a major breakthrough: four models (E2B, E4B, 26B MoE, 31B Dense) released under an Apache 2.0 license, allowing unrestricted commercial use. The challenge is to build applications that work where infrastructure is lacking: low-bandwidth environments, areas without cloud connectivity, or contexts where data privacy is paramount.
Participants can explore avenues such as offline educational tools for rural classrooms, privacy-preserving medical diagnostic assistants, or decentralized energy solutions for communities.
