The Challenge: Building Agents That Speak the Same Language

The healthcare AI Hackathon Agents Assemble challenges you to develop interoperable medical AI solutions by leveraging three revolutionary standards: MCP (Model Context Protocol), A2A (Agent-to-Agent), and FHIR. Two technical tracks are available.

Option 1: Forge a Superpower (MCP Server) – Create an MCP server that exposes specialized healthcare tools. Think of it as forging a hammer that any agent can use. Your tools can process patient data, perform analyses, or automate clinical workflows.

Option 2: Build a Complete Agent (A2A Standard) – Develop an intelligent agent capable of managing complex medical workflows and collaborating with other agents. Thanks to the COIN (Conversational Interoperability) and A2A standards natively integrated into Prompt Opinion, your agent will be able to communicate and solve real problems from day one – no expertise in A2A protocols required.

This 100% online hackathon is open worldwide and accessible to all levels. Here are the key dates to remember:

• Submission Period: March 2, 2026 (9:00 AM EDT) → May 11, 2026 (11:00 PM EDT)
• Judging: May 11 → May 25, 2026

Who Can Participate?

The hackathon is open to individuals who are legal adults in their country of residence, to teams of eligible individuals, as well as to organizations. You can participate alone, join multiple teams, or represent your organization. Multiple submissions are allowed if each project is unique and substantially different.

Technical Prerequisites: Create a free account on Devpost and on the Prompt Opinion platform (app.promptopinion.ai). No registration fee is required. All documents (description, video, instructions) must be in English or translated into English.

Evaluation Criteria & Rules

The process takes place in two stages. Stage 1 (Pass/Fail) validates that your project is published in the Prompt Opinion Marketplace, demonstrates adherence to MCP or A2A protocols, functions on the platform, and exclusively uses synthetic or anonymized data (no real PHI data allowed – immediate disqualification).

Stage 2 evaluates projects based on three equally weighted criteria, judged by a panel including Josh Mandel (Chief Architect for Health, Microsoft Research):

• The AI Factor (does your solution leverage generative AI to solve a problem inaccessible to classic software?),
• Potential Impact (does it address a real pain point with a clear hypothesis for improvement?),
• and Feasibility (could it exist in a real healthcare system while respecting confidentiality, security, and regulatory constraints?).

Projects can be new or based on existing code, provided they are functional on Prompt Opinion. You must be authorized to use any integrated third-party API or SDK. Intellectual property remains yours, but you grant a non-exclusive license for evaluation and promotion.
